Six Sentence Sunday! [TIDAL WHISPERS ARC winner revealed, too!]

Hello and welcome back, fellow #SixSunday-ers, hehe! :D

Today’s six sentences continue from last week’s excerpt from my story in TIDAL WHISPERS, where we left Harmon the merman at the bottom of the ocean, in the Ladali Trench, where the “thugs and crooks” of the sea like to hang out — scoundrels, like his brother, Creeb.

PEARL OF PAU’MAA con’t

Harmon clawed through the water, savoring the heat of anger pumping through his body.

Once I have the curve of my mother’s heirloom pearl in my palm, he thought, my brother’s wrongs will be brought to order. He pinged the dark waters, outlining the trench walls. He was getting closer.

Miki hugged herself, trying to press down the fear bumps prickling her bare arms. Her toes gripped warm sand, clinging to the beach, worried it would be the last time she’d ever be free to stand there.

Ooo! Harmon sounds pretty tee’d off, having to fix his good for nothing brother’s mistakes. And Miki! Why the heck is she worried about standing on the beach? Sorry, friends, this is all I can share, but if you’d like, you can click HERE to add TIDAL WHISPERS to your to-read shelf, the e-anthology releases JUNE 04, 2012. :)

Six Sentence Sunday!

Hello fellow Six Sunday-ers! I’m baaaaack, hehehe! Whee! :D

Today’s six sentences come from my story in J. Taylor Publishing’s fantasy romance anthology, TIDAL WHISPERS, which drops for release next month, woohoo! 8-)

PEARL OF PAU’MAA

The cold current exhausted Harmon like no battle ever had. That frigid band of ocean coursing through the Ladali Trench blued the peach of his skin and shriveled the long dorsal fin stretching down his tail. He could handle the intense pressure—accustomed to swimming at all depths—but the Trench waters squeezed precious heat from his blood.

The cold reminded him that he wasn’t a regular to the chilly offshoots of the ocean—a soldier, not a scoundrel. He had honored his people, serving his time in the 7th infantry, in the bright, warm surface waters of the Pau’maa Rim. Not down in the murky nadirs with the thugs and crooks of the sea.

What’s a good guy like Harmon doing swimming in the coldest depths of the ocean where the dastardly bottom dwellers of the sea live? hehe! You’ll see, winkwink! ;) ;)

In the meantime, click HERE if you’d like to add TIDAL WHISPERS to your to-read shelf. :)

Six Sentence Sunday

Hello! Thanks for joining me for another Six Sentence Sunday  8-)

Today’s sample from my 2011 NaNoWriMo novel, PENUMBRA, continues from last week’s post. Twins, Jule and Jaysol, have just received a letter from a military guard.

I winced at the scrape of Jaysol’s chair and his cane thumping the floor as he hobbled his way into the living room. I held the envelope out to him. “The soldier said it’s for the oldest [child]  in the house.”

He took the parchment from me and held it for a moment, testing the weight of what I assumed was our parents death notice. I was so sure it would detail how their lives were lost, that their souls were able to find the light before the Cimmerian’s drained them dry.  When Jaysol tore the seal I held my breath, biting my lip while he silently read the letter.

Six Sentence Sunday

Happy New Year!

Welcome to Six Sentence Sunday, where we share six sentences from one of our WiP’s. :)

My first post of the new year will be from my NaNoWriMo 2011 efforts, my YA Sci-Fi NiP, PENUMBRA. Briefly, Jule and Jaysol are twins, working in the mines while their parents are at war battling the Cimmerian penumbra threatening to choke out the sun – and their “sunny” way of life.

The knock at the door was unexpected. I glanced at Jaysol, both of us worried it was perhaps a debt collector, or worse, one of the neighbors nosing in on our situation. So when I checked the window and saw a soldier from the royal guard in full dress uniform, I knew it was my worst fear brought to life. I somehow managed to get to the door, even though my knees felt too wobbly to support me. I braced myself, expecting news that my parents were dead.

The guard handed over an envelope and said, “For the oldest of the house.”

Six Sentence Sunday

Hello! Thank you for joining me for Six Sentence Sunday.

These six pick up a little bit further from where we left off last week with CHOMP (my YA horror NiP), where Penny and Luke were riding the school bus home when a military convoy curiously blasted through the stop sign, skimming past the nose of the bus.

Later that evening…

Running never used to hurt. The pins holding my leg bones together kept transmitting hot flashes of electricity though, reminding me again of how my life had changed. At least adrenaline had turned me back into a sprinter. Sort of.

The thundering feet and slobbery grunting at my back was gaining on me.

“Luke!” I screamed, run-hopping across the moon-lit field separating our houses.

What’s chasing Penny? Will Luke hear her cries for help? hehe! *rubs hands with glee* Well, that’s what I’ve been working on, slow but steady. ;)

Thank you so much for reading! Please wander around to see what some of the other #sixsunday participants have revealed. :D

Also, as a friendly reminder, Wednesday, December 21 is the last day to comment to win a free copy of Fangtales, a YA vampire anthology that includes my short story, Sanctuary. :)
